Bahrain's Interior Ministry: Use main roads only when necessary
Manama – Bahrain's Interior Ministry has issued an important public safety directive to citizens and residents after emergency sirens were activated on Saturday. The ministry explained that "given the current circumstances, we request citizens and residents to use main roads only when absolutely necessary." This directive was issued for two main reasons: maintaining public safety and allowing relevant authorities to efficiently use the roads.
This warning comes following the US military's attacks on Iranian nuclear sites. Bahrain, which houses the US Central Command's regional base, has taken this step in light of these regional developments. The ministry also urged citizens to remain calm and proceed to the nearest safe area.
The ministry made this announcement through the My Government application and promised further safety instructions. In light of the emergency situation, the government has instructed 70% of government employees to work from home with immediate effect, while emergency personnel are excluded from this order. This remote working system has been activated across all ministries and government agencies.
This development reflects the regional security situation, as Bahrain is located very close to Iran and hosts approximately 9,000 US defense personnel. The US Navy's Fifth Fleet, based in Bahrain, provides security to ships and aircraft in the region. Bahrain established relations with Israel several years ago, which influence regional geopolitical dynamics.
This public safety guidance comes as Kuwait, which also hosts the US military base Camp Arifjan, has activated its emergency plan. Both countries have prepared shelters and warehouses for essential goods to ensure the continuity of financial and service operations. The
Ministry of Interior's directive seeks citizens' cooperation to ensure efficient emergency response. Keeping main roads off-limits will help emergency services respond more quickly. The Ministry has assured that further instructions will be shared soon, depending on the situation.
This move is an example of strengthening security measures amid rising tensions in the Middle East. Countries like Bahrain, which are strategically important and host large foreign military bases, need to be especially vigilant. Citizen cooperation will play a crucial role in handling this emergency.
