Violence breaks out again in Bangladesh: Bomb blasts reported in several places, verdict on Sheikh Hasina to be announced today

Bangladesh

Bangladesh: Tensions are high in Bangladesh as a court prepares to deliver its verdict on former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The country has been rocked by arson and crude bomb attacks for the past two days. The violence is reminiscent of the 2024 student protests, in which more than 500 people were killed. Bangladesh's capital Dhaka turned into a fortress on Thursday as Sheikh Hasina's party, the Awami League, called for a 'Dhaka lockdown'.

Court to decide on murder-conspiracy charges against Sheikh HasinaPolice and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in large numbers. Several checkpoints are being set up at the entry points of Dhaka and public vehicles are being intensively checked. Security has also been tightened around the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT). The same court will set a date for the verdict on dozens of charges, including murder and conspiracy, filed against Sheikh Hasina and her top aides. It is worth mentioning that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina came to India in August last year to seek refuge.
